INFOFISH Organic Aquaculture

Under the CFC/FAO organic aquaculture project , run by INFOFISH, a number of fish and shrimp farms in Thailand, Myanmar and Malaysia are geared  up to produce  safe , eco-friendly certified chemical-free and organic fishery products for the  regional and global markets.  

The CFC/FAO organic aquaculture project is run by INFOFISH  , where twelve beneficiary companies are involved in aquaculture production of  high quality black tiger shrimp (P. monodon) , freshwater prawn (Machrobrachium rosenburgii) , tilapia, panagsiua catfish etc.

Two organic certification systems namely Naturland from Germany and  OAPC from Thailand are used for producing organic fishery products under the project. 



The objectives of the project are to:

(i) contribute to the sustainable development of the aquaculture sector by ensuring safety of aquaculture products from the Asia-Pacific.
(ii) increase knowledge on certification and marketing of chemical -free and organic aquaculture products.
(iii) facilitate transfer of technology to the small and medium scale sectors of production and marketing of organic aquaculture products.
(iv) encourage investment in sustainable eco-friendly aquaculture and domestic marketing and export-processing of produce.
